The way up when life gets you down

'ELIJAH WAS...JUST LIKE US.' JAMES 5:17 Elijah is feeling battered and wants to give up. God doesn't lecture him on being more super spiritual but sorts out some grub, lets him chill out and begins to help Elijah get a true view on things. So: 1) He adjusted Elijah's View of God . 'Get in the presence of God and he'll meet with you' (1 Kings 19:11 NIV). The One who gave Elijah victory on Mount Carmel, could also help Elijah as he sat feeling desperate in a desert. It's a no brainer; Elijah needed to spend time with God! 2) He adjusted Elijah's world-view. Elijah said, 'God's covenant is broken, His altar destroyed, His prophets murdered, and I'm the only one left' (1 Kings 19:14). To Elijah everything looked hopeless but God showed Elijah that He was at work and had the bigger picture 3) He adjusted Elijah's self-perspective. The prophet saw himself as helpless and inadequate: 'Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors. (1 Kings 19:4). But God showed him there were still kings to anoint, battles to win, and that Elijah had an important role to play (v16). 4) He provided a mate God sent a guy called Elisha to help.(1 Kings 19:21). You're not supposed to walk alone! Allow yourself to need help, and check out who God puts in your life to support you. Today get praying that God will give you a true view.
