My Random Assertions and Musings

On Courtesy...

One of the things my parents impressed on me, that I have found has given me favour through out the years, is the importance of courtesy and etiquette. If adhered to, it will mean that you will be greeted with open arms in the future and you will be remembered with a smile.

"Politeness and consideration for others is like investing pennies and getting dollars back"
Thomas Sowell

"Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength"
Eric Hoffer

On Governments...

I know this much, when a government tells you that something is truly evil, that it is not to be trusted. That is when you should put yours specs on and take a bloody good look at it! Dig deep, investigate further and then form an opinion based on what you have found because to trust, knowing the past hand that governments, particularly Western governments, have had in stifling the truth, doctoring facts and perpetuating lies, would be foolish - to say the least.

It is ours to be sceptical and aware.

"I have come to the conclusion that politics are too serious a matter to be left to the politicians"
Charles De Gaulle

On Families...

How we deal with our families is inevitably how we will deal with the world and how the world will in turn deal with us. In families, we learn all we need to know about being tolerant, patience, giving and kind. All we need to know about not giving up, of hope, of rejection and ultimately, if we remember to stay in the room, of love conquering all. With the safety net of love to catch us when we fall, we can be foolish, inappropriate, and selfish. So if we can master our family then we can surely master the world.

"I can't think of anything to write about except families. They are a metaphor for every other part of society"
Anna Quindlen

On Perception…

Perception is like a train. We sit in a carriage and when we get off we say to ourselves. “It was cold on that train” or “it was hot on that train”. When in fact, all we can accurately make an assessment about is the area we were in on the carriage of the train at that particular time.

It is the human way to sum up life by our experiences but like the train carriage we must remember that there are multiple carriages to a train and if we dared to moved we may indeed find things a little different elsewhere.

"What you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing; it also depends on what sort of person you are"
C. S. Lewis

"We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are.Henri BergsonThe eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend"
Anais Nin

On Shoes

Shoes say everything you need to know about the man, except of course, whether he is good or bad.
